The recent shortages in the supply of semiconductors have resulted in factory closures in many sectors from health to automotive, affecting decrease in production in Europe. This demonstrates how dependent Europe is of the global semiconductor value chain, and the impact of having a very limited number of cutting-edge manufacturers. To confront this challenge, European Commission has proposed an EU Chips Act that will build on Europe’s strengths of world-leading research and technology organisations, networks and a number of pioneering equipment manufacturers.

Finland’s EU presidency begins on 1 July 2019. During that time, major changes to innovation funding were achieved. This time around, our presidency oversees the preparations for Horizon 2020 with unprecedented levels of funding. EU funding can be leveraged to further industry’s innovations and commercialising them, and access to EU funding is easier than ever. It is time for Finnish industry to make the most out of their innovations. EU innovation funding only has impact only if it has the industry to lead the way.

Into is a new funding service offered in Finland by Tekes, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, to boost the international growth of SMEs. It provides the SMEs opportunities to strengthen their innovation competencies in order to grow into international markets.

EuroNanoForum 2017 event concluded on 23^rd of June in Valletta, Malta after three successful conference and exhibition days that attracted participants from over 40 countries and brought nanotechnology and open innovations in focus to strengthen the competitiveness of European manufacturing industries. In addition to being a co-organiser of the event, Spinverse took an active participant role as well, with Managing Director Laura Koponen, headlining a plenary session on "nanotechnologies for industrial success".

Spinverse is delighted to make known yet another customer success story: Finnish company IndoorAtlas secured Horizon2020 SME Instrument financing to scale-up and expand the disruptive geomagnetic indoor positioning technology delivered as a scalable cloud platform.

5 small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) from Finland have been selected in the latest round of Horizon2020 SME Instrument Phase 2. Each project receives up to € 2.5 million to finance innovation activities. Three out of five Finland’s winning cases in this cut-off secured funding with the help of Spinverse.
