In order for Sweden to be climate neutral by 2045, the Swedish parliament, together with the EU, is introducing the funding instruments Klimatklivet (Climate Leap) and Industriklivet (Green Industry Leap) to accelerate the transition. What do they involve and who can apply for what? IMCG's Johan Emanuel explains the terms.

Lignin Industries from Sweden converts lignin so it can be blended with virgin and recycled thermoplastics to create new types of bioplastics. Lignin Industries recently secured 4.4. M€ funding from the EU Innovation Fund to help them financing the expansion of the first-of-its-kind large-scale production site located in Sweden. Lignin Industries secured their success in the highly competitive application process with support from Spinverse funding experts.

As the health systems are under increasing pressure, there is an urgent need for more innovative, integrated approaches covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and disease management. This is the key challenge IHI is addressing in the forthcoming calls in 2022.

Intelligent Motion Control under Industry 4.E (IMOCO4.E) is an extensive 31 M€ pan-European project partially funded by the ECSEL Joint Undertaking (currently known as KDT Joint Undertaking) and national funding agencies. The three-year project will help shape the future of Industry 4.0 manufacturing in Europe, aiming to perceive and control complex machines and projects. Spinverse is part of the Project Coordination Office in this large-scale project.  

With the budget of 598 M€ for the 2022 call, Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE), is set to make an impact on Europe by funding projects that give a boost to nature and biodiversity, accelerate circular economy, mitigate of and adapt to climate change, and help the transition to clean energy. The calls were opened in May with the deadline on 4 October 2022.

Europe’s healthcare leaders will meet on 14-16 June 2022 at the HIMSS22 European Health Conference & Exhibition in Helsinki, Finland. Helsinki University Hospital will showcase their expertise and results of joint R&D with companies through the CleverHealth Network ecosystem and “E3 Excellence in Pandemics Response” project. These two entities are part of the inspiring programme at the Finnish Pavilion, where Finnish know-how on health technologies is on display for the international participant group of healthcare pioneers and innovators. Spinverse team coordinates the CleverHealth Network (CHN) ecosystem and facilitates the joint work in the E3 project, and will be present at the HIMSS22 event.

This prestigious and annual recognition for innovative and inspiring leadership that creates groundbreaking solutions in their respective companies were given for the 7th time. In the Large Enterprises category, the Jury selected CTO Erik Ekudden of Ericsson as the award winner. In the Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) category, the recognition was awarded to CTO Madhava Venkatesh of TrusTrace.

Long COVID, a research and innovation project funded by the European Union’s research and innovation programme Horizon Europe has just been launched on 1^st of June 2022. The pan-European project with a total budget of 8.2 M€ is coordinated by Helsinki University Hospital (HUS). The project consortium with 12 partners aims to understand the mechanisms behind the long-term symptoms following COVID-19 infection. Spinverse is one of the partners in this project making a difference to Long Covid Syndrome (LCS) sufferers.

The Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU), the follower of the Bio-based Industries (BBI JU) partnership, is set to fund excellent collaborative projects and the first call for project proposals will open before the summer break 2022. The preliminary call topics indicate a wide range of growth opportunities for companies working in this sector. The search for strong partners to collaborate in consortium projects is already underway. Is your company considering joining this initiative?
