The CBE partnership worth 2 billion euros between the European Union and the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) is the successor of BBI partnership. Bio-based industries are considered to be a key enabler of the green transition towards a resilient and environmentally sustainable EU economy. The CBE JU’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and the Work Programme for 2022 are expected to be adopted in Q1-Q2 of 2022, after which the first CBE JU call for project proposals will be launched, bringing growth opportunities to companies working in this sector.

Overview
The public-private Joint Undertaking for Circular Bio-based Europe aims to scale up technologies to speed up sustainability and circular economy. CBE PPP will only fund projects that can contribute to this objective. Part of the research will focus on sustainable supply of primary and secondary biomass, and at the same time, a system will be put in place to measure the environmental and socio-economic impacts of the projects. Focus will also be on the innovative productive technologies and conversion of biomass into bio-based products by biorefineries.
Demo and flagship investments are foreseen to get a large share of the funding. Applicants can include any legal entity from the Member State or associated country. Normally there is a need to have a consortium of approximately 8-12 partners.
