Spinverse to navigate Helsinki-Uusimaa region towards higher investments in research, development and innovation
Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council has chosen Spinverse to create a strategic roadmap towards an increase in the region’s investment in research, development and innovation (RDI). An understanding of the status of RDI activities in the region and a visionary roadmap towards the future will be created in the participatory process with local stakeholders in the coming months.
Helsinki-Uusimaa region is known for its state-of-the-art activities in the field of international research and innovation. To secure the capital region’s position as a key driver for growth and a leader in RDI activities in Europe, Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council has launched a strategic concepting of a roadmap towards intensified and innovation-based international collaboration and access to EU funding to support local RDI actors in the region. The goal is to identify the most effective methods to increase the share of RDI investments to a minimum on 5% of the regional GDP and to support local actors in their search for international collaboration and EU funding.
“EU funding and access to ecosystems open a variety of possibilities for companies and organisations of all sizes,” says Veera Mustonen, Director and Team Leader of the Smart Cities and Mobility team at Spinverse. “We are happy to support the Helsinki-Uusimaa Regional Council and help the key RDI actors secure growth through RDI activities and gain access to EU funding sources.”
Spinverse leading the strategic process
The strategic concepting and creation of a desk study and RDI roadmap for the region will be led by a team of experts at Spinverse specialised in EU funding and RDI ecosystem development. MDI will provide expertise in regional development as subcontractor. The process consists of desk research looking at the status of RDI activities in Helsinki-Uusimaa region in comparison with other leading regions in Europe. Through surveys, interviews and roundtable discussions, valuable information will be gathered from local stakeholders to deepen understanding of the needs, barriers and opportunities related to RDI activities and EU funding.
The strategic concepting will be carried out in the latter half of 2023 and results will be published during the first half of 2024.
