RENEWFM offers funding opportunities for solar PV projects in Finland and Bulgaria
A new funding opportunity under the EU Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism opens concrete possibilities for developers and investors planning ground-mounted solar PV (photovoltaic system) projects in Finland and Bulgaria. The European Commission has launched the 2026 call to accelerate renewable energy deployment through cross-border cooperation between EU member states. Get in touch with Spinverse to discuss your eligibility for the funding!
The call has a total budget of €54.9 million and will support mature solar PV investments through direct investment grants awarded via a competitive tender procedure.
Applications are open until 1 September 2026.
Cross-border cooperation
The Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism enables member states to jointly finance renewable energy projects across borders, supporting EU climate and energy targets while improving cost efficiency and deployment speed. Under the 2026 call, Luxembourg participates as the contributing country while Bulgaria and Finland act as host countries where the supported projects will be implemented.
This structure strengthens European cooperation and allows renewable energy to be developed where it is most effective, regardless of national boundaries.
Investment support for ground-mounted solar PV
The call focuses on ground-mounted solar photovoltaic projects located in the designated host countries. By targeting this technology, the mechanism aims to rapidly increase renewable electricity generation while contributing to both national and EU-wide climate objectives.
Successful projects will receive investment grants following a competitive ranking process. Detailed award criteria, country-specific conditions and grant disbursement rules will be presented during an upcoming information event.
