Post docs in key role to boost renewal of industries

In today's competitive world, hands-on attitude and extensive expertise are important tools to understand the customers and help them to renew and succeed. “A prime example of understanding the needs in industry, we have been growing a new generation of industry relevant Doctors through the Dimecc Breakthrough Materials Doctoral school which was built and run as part of the industry driven Dimecc BSA and HYBRIDS programs”, says program manager Dr. Markku Heino from Spinverse.

“This activity brought together 68 companies and 38 Doctoral students through intensive joint development work resulting not only as theses and technical solutions for the industry, but also as positive flow of ideas and people between academia and industry. Our experience has shown the importance of bringing renewal to companies through joint work and new “industry-ready” talented people”, Heino continues.

Another activity, PoDoCo (Post Docs in Companies), coordinated by Dimecc boosts the transfer of young talented post docs to companies.

PoDoCo is a matchmaking program supporting long term competitiveness and strategic renewal of companies and employment of young doctors in the private sector. PoDoCo facilitates novel meetings of post docs and companies and offers young scholars funding for academic research having strategic importance for Finnish companies.

For companies the PoDoCo program offers an opportunity to investigate new strategic openings with the help of talented and practically oriented post docs, who are familiar with scientific analysis and methods. The program will assist companies by:

• Helping companies to find highly-skilled and talented young postdocs to investigate new strategic openings
• Offering a research grant that covers the costs of a postdoc during the research period
