Far North Fiber Europe 1: Pioneering connectivity across the North-West passage

Now that secure digital infrastructure is more crucial than ever, the Global Far North Fiber project emerges as a transformative venture aiming to enhance digital connectivity and strengthen Europe's digital sovereignty. As part of the Global Far North Fiber project, the Far North Fiber Europe 1 project, led by Cinia Oy from Finland, paves the way for this massive initiative. Spinverse experts supported the successful funding application process for Connecting Europe Facility programme.

The Far North Fiber Europe 1 consists of marine ground survey in the North Atlantic segment of the Global far North Fiber, a critical step in preparing for the installation of a robust subsea cable system. The project also aims to build three cable landing stations in Norway, Ireland, and Finland, respectively.

The project received nearly 20M€ funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme and will be executed over the next three years in 2024 – 2026.

The journey to actualize the project required not only vision but also substantial support, provided by the funding experts from Spinverse. The experienced team at Spinverse consisted of Senior Manager Antero Vesterinen, who worked as a project manager in this project preparation phase, along with a dedicated team comprising of Senior Project Manager Leena Vedenpää, Principal Consultant Sameer Khan, Senior Project Manager Pekka Torvinen, and Consultant Samuel Nash. Their efforts were underpinned by the diligent quality assurance provided by Directors Veera Mustonen and Mikko J. Salminen, ensuring that the application met the highest standards and clearly conveyed the project's significance.

Senior Vice President Business Development Pertti Hyvärinen from Cinia Oy worked closely with the Spinverse team during the intense project preparation phase for this groundbreaking project. He says: “The support Cinia got from Spinverse in the preparation of the CEF Digital project proposal worked very well and yielded excellent results. I was especially impressed by the experienced Spinverse team taking an overall responsibility on ensuring the progress of the proposal. Further, the Spinverse experts actively presented suitable solutions as the different sections of the proposal progressed.”

Far North Fiber Europe 1 is more than a subsea cable project: it is a strategic move that will enhance global communication, reinforce Europe’s digital sovereignty, and provide a secure and low-latency link between Europe, North America, and Japan. The project's vision aligns with the European Green Deal's commitment to sustainability and positions Europe at the forefront of the digital economy's future.
