Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital is a European Union initiative designed to boost a high-performance and resilient Europe, and to secure digital infrastructures across Europe, fostering growth and competitiveness in line with the EU’s Digital Decade 2030 goals. The programme supports the interconnection of digital networks within and between member states, ensuring robust digital services and communication infrastructures across the continent. The calls were published on the 22nd of October 2024.
The recently launched CEF Multi-Annual Work Programme (2024-2027) offers detailed plans for upcoming initiatives. Have you had a chance to review it yet? Key highlights include:
- 5G Large-scale pilots: These projects will test and scale up 5G standalone infrastructures, enabling innovations in transport, healthcare, education, and more.
- Quantum Communication Infrastructure (EuroQCI): A Europe-wide quantum network that will ensure secure communication channels, integrating terrestrial and space-based infrastructures.
- Backbone connectivity for Digital Global Gateways: This initiative focuses on resilient digital infrastructures, connecting Europe with global partners via submarine cables and other backbones.
- Operational digital platforms: Support for large-scale digital platforms that integrate cloud and edge computing services across various sectors.
- Programme support actions: These include studies, communication campaigns, and tools to ensure effective deployment and governance of CEF-funded initiatives.
