The EU LIFE provides funding for environmental and climate actions

Written by Spinverse | Apr 2, 2025 6:22:52 AM

The LIFE programme is the EU’s funding instrument for environment and climate action, contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal. It provides grants for implementing best practices and developing, demonstrating and promoting innovating techniques to fight climate change, biodiversity loss and protect our environment. Spinverse can offer expertise on how your project could be fitted to the LIFE programmes leading to significant environmental and climate impacts.

LIFE includes four sub-programmes each covering a wide range of topics

  • Circular economy and quality of life
  • Circular economy and quality of life
  • Nature and biodiversity
  • Clean energy transition.

Successful LIFE actions are all about real environmental and climate impact, sustainability, replicability and transferability

Measurable impacts are key to a successful funding proposal. In addition to reducing GHG emissions and other critical environmental impacts (such as circularity, resource efficiency, chemical pollution, biodiversity decline, water management), successful projects also provide substantial socio-economic impacts, such as job creation and new European value chains. The actions can make a significant technological impact, introduce new kinds of expertise or practices, ways of operation, operational models in tackling environmental and climate challenges and also impacting the relevant policies and regulations.

Sustainability – long-term actions and end results

In LIFE terminology, ‘Sustainability’ refers to the long-term nature of funded actions and their end results: how can the outcomes of the action be maintained after the project has been completed? At the same time, the project must include concrete measures during and after the project for replication and transfer of the outcomes to new regions, countries or sectors.

Spinverse has supported several clients in preparing their funding applications. Related to environmental and climate impacts, Spinverse has expertise in identifying and quantifying the most relevant positive impacts that the project can provide in the participating countries and beyond. We also help the clients in setting up a feasible set of indicators to follow during the project to prove the realisation and upscaling of the impacts.
