The LIFE projects are funded through several types of grants of which the Standard Action Projects (SAP) provide the most interesting opportunities for companies interested in LIFE funding.

According to the European Commission, SAPs aim to develop, demonstrate and promote innovative techniques, methods and approaches as well as contribute to the knowledge base and to the application of best practices. The funded projects can be close-to-market. In other words, aim not only at delivering improved environmental solutions, but also at making sure such solutions are widely taken up by society in general and, more particularly, by the economy through an explicit market-oriented approach.

Co-financing rate is normally 60% and the maximum duration of a project is 10 years.
