Estonian Government Contracts Spinverse for Preparing National Materials Program

Spinverse Oy has been selected to conduct a broad feasibility study for an Estonian Materials Technology Programme. Materials technology is identified as one of three strategic key technology areas in Estonia’s research and development and innovations strategy. The study was ordered by the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communication.

“This is an important study, where Estonian materials technology competences and competitiveness is assessed and compared with the international state-of-the-art. This speeds up Spinverse’s international growth and shows that we are identified as a top-class nano and materials’ technology expert” states Pekka Koponen, the managing director of Spinverse.

Estonia, as an EU member, is determined to enhance their competitiveness by investing in research and innovation. The country has already joined the EU top-of-the-class in terms of increased investment. The goal is to increase national R&D investments up to 3% of GDP by 2014. The selection of materials technology as one of the strategic key technologies is expected to speed-up Estonia’s development towards a competitive knowledge-based society. The study conducted by Spinverse will identify the key materials technology sectors, where Estonia has world-class competence and most potential for creating new competitive business.

Spinverse commercialises emerging technologies and creates new business by combining industrial, financial and scientific expertise with world-wide networks. Nano and materials technology are among the core competences of Spinverse. In 2006, Spinverse conducted a similar materials technology study as part of preparation of the national Functional Materials programme and is currently coordinating the programme.
