Applying service design to innovation

Today’s business environment is changing rapidly. Industry boundaries are blurring, and digitalization is enabling new business models. In the rapidly changing environment innovation is increasingly open, companies are actively seeking to collaboration and forming ecosystem partnerships in order to renew themselves and sustain competitiveness.

Leading an innovation ecosystem is more demanding than that of business and knowledge ecosystems. Working with numerous ecosystem projects, we at Spinverse have learned how to apply design thinking into our ways of working. Through close collaboration with our ecosystem partners, we have discovered, that our role in building successful ecosystems is that of a service designer – we help to design and implement customer-centric open innovation. From a company and ecosystem perspective it is essential to let go of control and build a shared vision as a part of the ecosystem. In essence: apply design thinking when establishing and operating in an ecosystem to ensure continuous learning and seamless collaboration.

Spinverse has been working with open innovation since 2009. Our whitepaper The secrets in leading successful open innovation ecosystems introduced six key elements that are pivotal for building and leading a successful innovation ecosystem. Lately, based on our experience, we have explored the process for creating an open innovation ecosystem further and detailed that approach in the new white paper which explains how "Service Design helps build effective Open Innovation Ecosystems"
