A new update on the ELISE AI Catalogue brings together academia and industry within Europe

Finding the right partners may often prove to be one of the obstacles to develop or commercialise new AI solutions. An activity within the ELISE network has addressed this challenge by launching a catalogue in 2022 that provided a broad sample on European research organisations focused on AI, thus making it easier for academia and industry to find the right partners for a fruitful collaboration. There is now an updated version available, this time bringing nodes from the European industry.

For innovations to find their way to markets, collaboration between research and industry is essential and mutually beneficial. Both parties are lacking time and resources but joining forces will help in making progress in commercialization.

Spinverse is one of the actors providing support to ELISE Work Package 6, which focuses on fostering and promoting collaboration between research and industry. As one of the measures to promote this activity, Giancarlo Pastor, SangEun Park and Diederick Stellingsma from Spinverse created in 2022 an extensive catalogue with 100+ European research organisations engaged in AI-related research, or “AI nodes”, from near 30 different European countries. In 2023, the catalogue was updated with nodes from the ELLIS network, a pan-European AI network of excellence which focuses on fundamental science, technical innovation and societal impact. In 2024, the catalogue is bringing nodes from the European industry.

The ELISE AI Catalogue provides a one-stop-shop on AI topics of expertise and development interests, with the contact information of each organisation. For students, it also provides information on various study programmes in AI. Giancarlo Pastor says: “It has been an interesting undertaking to bring all the organisations into one place. The large number of organisations involved in AI research in Europe shows the huge potential of commercialisation of the applications, once the partners in research and business are brought together. We hope that the catalogue is one of the steps in building a bridge to a stronger collaboration between research organisations and businesses.”

The AI Catalogue is available online on the ELISE website
