Mirka, the Finnish surface finishing specialist previously launched an Innovation Challenge to be able to develop new ideas and ways of working, regarding dust measurement in workplaces, inviting visionaries and innovators to tackle a challenge formed by dust. Co-created with Spinverse, the Mirka Innovation Challenge is part of Mirka’s multisectoral SurfValue ecosystem to develop surface finish technologies of the future.

Experimentation is a great way to reduce risks in innovation. It is impossible to predict how customers will react to new products and services. The best practice is to build and test new ideas with customers and other stakeholders early in the process.

Mirka is seeking new innovative solutions for dust control and measurement in different working environments. The freshly launched Mirka Innovation Challenge, arranged in collaboration with Spinverse,  invites new ideas and ready solutions for dust level measurement, to join Mirka’s decades of experience in dust-free sanding. 

While Spinverse Innovation Challenge allows the large companies looking for new ideas to find truly out-of-the-box solutions for their business challenges, the participating teams gain good opportunities to access concrete co-development projects with industry leaders.

The Digital Fiber Ecosystem, jointly organized by Siemens and Spinverse, has finalized its Bio-Based Industry IoT Innovation Challenge. Top Data Science won the competition with an AI solution for product quality prediction and process optimization. The winner receives an opportunity to collaborate with Siemens in IoT industrial solution development.

Industrial Internet has become an essential part of innovation in process industries, but utilization of digital twins across the whole process life cycle has been lagging. The Digital Fiber Ecosystem, initiated by Siemens and other key players in process automation and digitalization, is changing this landscape in the bioprocess industry.

A shared victory between Fraunhofer Institute IPM from Germany and Luleå University of Technology from Sweden, who both came up with ideas on how to trace steel products by using the materials own characteristics. That was the result of the SmartSteel Innovation Challenge 2018 arranged by Spinverse with SSAB and Sandvik Materials Technology.

Currently, tracing of steel products is possible via physical markings. The vision is to provide the opportunity to follow the steel products all the way from the mill to the end product, for example to communicate its properties and processing instructions to the processing machine.
